Digital tools can play a key role in maximizing return on investment for a utility-scale PV plant. Reducing unplanned downtime, cutting labor costs and ensuring standardization across a portfolio of plants all provide tangible benefits to renewables asset managers, owners and investors.

In this pv magazine Webinar we’ll take a look at the challenges related to scaling operations for utility-scale PV such as scarcity of expertise, underperformance of assets compared to the target business case, increased complexity of technology and the market, and the cost of operation and maintenance services.

Joined by Thomas Pettersen from TGS and Prof. Erik Stensrud Marstein from the Institute for Energy Technology in Norwary, we’ll examine the importance of standardization to solving these challenges with a high level discussion on topics ranging from the role of digital twins and central data repositories to effective onboarding and system implementation throughout a plant’s lifecycle.

We’ll also examine real-world examples of how digital asset management tools can help plant owners understand and resolve power losses, reduce unplanned downtime, and limit unexpected O&M expenses while keeping labor costs low.

With 25 years in the energy sector, Thomas Pettersen began at ABB before dedicating two decades to TGS Prediktor. Rising from Project Manager to VP of Asset Management Solutions in 2019, Thomas now leads the asset management business, delivering a cutting-edge solution for renewable energy. His mission is to enable data-driven decisions, driving a smarter and more sustainable energy future.

Prof. Erik Stensrud Marstein | Chief Scientist PV, the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE)

Professor Erik Stensrud Marstein is Chief Scientist in Solar Energy at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) in Norway, director of the two research centers FME Susoltech and FME Solar and adjoint professor in PV technology at the University of Oslo. He has been performing R&D at IFE in the field of PV since 2003 and authored and co-authored more than 150 research papers, in addition to several patents. He has also supervised a large number of M.Sc. and PhD students, many of which today work in the industry. Most of his research has been performed in close collaboration with industry partners.
